I was hired by the New-York Historical Society (now known as the New York Historical) to produce a series of educational segments tied to the 400th anniversary of the founding of the New Amsterdam colony. The series would explore the founding of the colony, conditions living there, relationships with indigenous peoples, and how the Dutch treated their enslaved populations.
In addition to producing and planning the project, I also acted as the editor, voice director, camera operator, and motion graphic designer. Having flexibility in the schedule allowed this to be a one person operation. That made it more efficient for the client, drawing on my background to fill almost every role, aside from performing the narration and providing hair and makeup services.
With support from the Netherlands and the museum, were were able to create segments diving into the history of the colony. Supporting media from the museum as well as partner institutions brought that history to life visually. We were also fortunate to interview indigenous scholars and record their lectures for the series.
