I had the opportunity to contribute motion graphics for the Netflix special “Hot Ones: Extra Heat”, a collaboration with the Hot Ones YouTube series. The “Extra Heat” specials feature actors from Netflix movies and series who are put through unique challenges themed to their shows.
For this episode, the actors are from the Netflix series “The Hawk”, with cast members Will Ferrell, Jimmy Tatro and Fortune Feimster. Since the show is about professional golfers, the actors were challenged to hit each other’s faces with golf balls on a massive baseball stadium screen... after eating lots of extra intense spicy wings, of course.
As a fan of Hot Ones, it was great to work on this special. It was a fast turnaround project where I had freedom to develop and pitch the concept. I started with a rough mockup in Photoshop and After Effects to demo the idea. Once it was approved, I moved on to modeling and animating the text in Blender, which I enhanced in After Effects with glow and shatter effects. The shattered glass effect didn’t make it into the final edit, but I’m still very happy with how it turned out.
